Preface

The Haughty stars and the Icy moon | Starfinder AU

Moonlight glowed onto the dark waters, reflecting its warm glow onto the surface. The stars twinkled brightly as the endless void stretched onwards. A hint of green shown in the otherwise blueish, picturesque night, Leafy.

She ran through the endless voice, trampling over flowers as she ran for what felt like forever. Her green hair flew back as she picked up speed while running, her jacket tied around her waist. A mysterious voice continued to call her name as she ran through the night. Leafy groaned as the name called her again, rubbing her temples.

“Oh Leafy~” She heard, trying to get the voice out of her mind. She frustratedly whipped her head back, glaring at the moon. She didn’t know how long she had been here but she knew it had been long enough. She wanted to get back to Firey! Back to their dream island! Their relationship had been getting better when all of that had been forcefully yanked from her hands, why?! Was fate this cruel to her? Hadn’t she suffered enough? Leafy ran onwards, ignoring the sickly sweet voice trying to get out.

“Can you just shut up?!” Leafy yelled, stopping in her tracks and staring up at the moon. The moon was bright tonight as well as being a full moon. It shone down brightly onto the ground, illuminating the dark scenery. “Who are you, really?” She pointed an accusatory finger at the moon, staring it down. The voice laughed, an insane yet ethereal laugh.

“Oh finally, some action!” Leafy felt herself being lifted off of the ground, her feet dangling. She yelled in protest but the power held tight around her arms and legs. “Lets talk this out, Okay?” In a blink of an eye, Leafy found herself somewhere else. The room was like an office, with a large antique chair across from her with a figure sitting in it. A witch’s hat sat atop the blue hair of the person, covering half of their face. There was a small coffee table with celestial detailing like the moon and the stars. The being who was likely controlling the power slowly lowered Leafy into a chair across from the figure, soon letting her go. They were completely surrounded by the night sky, the moon in the background, glowing still.

“What..?” Was all Leafy could say before getting back to her senses. The figure smiled, their teeth all sharp and pointy. “Who are you?! Why did you bring me here?!” Leafy adjusted her hair before continuing. “Wait, was it you who brought the storm?” The figure nodded their head, the star-shaped antenna bouncing with the movement.

“You can call me One! Just a friend of Two’s, that’s all.” Leafy shifted uneasily in the chair, eyeing One carefully. One flicked their wrist gracefully as a piece of paper lowered onto the table.

“What’s this…” Leafy looked down at the document to read it but One flung it upwards. She tutted as she shook her head, teasing Leafy with a sense of superiority. “Firey!” She gasped, realizing the fact that her friend was nowhere to be found. “What did you do with him!” She bore her gaze into One’s empyrean eyes. A figure of Firey appear onto the table suddenly, detailed perfectly from his hair to his clothing.

“Let’s make a deal, okay?” She leaned closer to Leafy, causing the latter to shrink into their seat but One pulled them forward. “Your compliance, for Firey’s complete and utter safety.” One smirked, knowing the weight of her words with Leafy’s face looked distraught at the news. Leafy sighed, hanging her head down low. She knew that complying with whoever this “friend of Two’s” was, would guarantee Firey’s safety but could she stand being without him for that long again?!

“Fine.” Leafy said, a hopeless look gracing her eyes as One released their power gripping upon Leafy. “I’ll ‘comply’ or whatever.” She signed her name upon the line, every letter seeming like a total betrayal to her friends, her family, Firey. One quickly rolled the document up, seeming pleased with the whole ordeal.

“Perfect! So glad we got that done without any further violence!” She twirled around and walked away from Leafy, her long cloak swishing on the ground as she stepped. “Luckily for you, I have my first mission already set up!” She brought back another document, folded up tightly with a string tying it shut. “Firstly,” she slid into her chair looking back at Leafy, who was fidgeting with the sleeves of her shirt. “Let’s get you into something more…appropriate for this.” She snapped her fingers as she brought something over to her. Quickly using her powers, she flicked her wrist and Leafy changed into the new apparel. It was very similar to One’s in a way, with a short star-patterned shawl over a white ruffled blouse paired with a long navy skirt down to her ankles where upon her feet she wore oxfords. Her hair had grown longer, back to what it was during the first season and it was tied back into a ponytail with a dark blue ribbon keeping it in. She hated every bit of this outfit. One seemed to like it though so what else could she do. One placed the paper onto the table, a photo clipped to it. The photograph was blurry, with the taker clearly in motion but some things were clear, mainly the objects in the photo which were Flower, Fanny, and Ruby, all grinning from ear to ear and holding up peace signs. In the background stood Snowball, sulking for not being in the photo.

“What about this photo is so important?” Leafy leaned closer, trying to take in every detail before One spun the paper around to face her.

“You see Snowball in the background?” Leafy nodded her head. “He’s wearing a friendship necklace all members of Iance had back in BFB.” She cringed as she spoke. “That necklace is hidden somewhere within the hotel.” She pointed to another picture, showing the layout of the hotel. “His room is here.” Leafy tugged at the itchy lace around the cuffs while listening. “I need you my darling Leafy, to go and steal it from his room.” This snapped Leafy back to reality, mainly the stealing part, not so much the pet name.

“Steal?! Why?” She shuddered, memories of her past flooding back through the dams she’d built up over the years. “I haven’t stolen anything in years! And why do you need a friendship necklace from over five years ago?” One just continued on, ignoring the leaf’s words.

“I need you to steal it so that way I can use it in one of my next deals.” She pointed to a photo of Pencil. She looked…happy, at least that’s how it appeared. The photo was taken way back during BFDIA, seemingly by Ruby who was making sure Pencil looked the best. “Got it?” Leafy sighed and agreed. One, extremely pleased with herself opened a portal to the left of herself and flung Leafy through, sending her screaming through the void once more.
